About PACE 2015

PACE 2015 is the acronym for PIHMAA Annual Conclave & Exchange which is our showcase annual Industry event open to both members and non-members of PIHMAA.

PACE 2015 kicks off as a Knowledge Event in its first half, with a Celebrity Keynote Speaker followed by two Panel Discussions with distinguished alumni.

The First Panel discussion topic is: 'Are Hotel's really keeping pace with the rapidly changing needs of the global traveller?' Leading Hotel Company CEO's will present their views on how their companies and brands are strategizing to stay in sync with their customers and ahead of competition.

In the second session, titled : 'With Gen Y increasingly being lured into Entrepreneurship, how can inspiring real life stories help them in building a successful enterprise?', our panelists with amazing real life stories will share their journeys with the house and speak about the pitfalls as well as the high moments along with their mantras to success.

The Knowledge sessions will be followed with Cocktails & Conversations, where attendees get the opportunity to interact with the Panelists in an informal environment. Dinner, and the fun evening with live music and interactive activities will follow.

Vir Sanghvi

Vir Sanghvi is the best-known Indian journalist of his generation. His career straddles print, television, books and now, n ew media. Vir was born in London in 1956 and educated at Mayo College, Ajmer and Mill Hill School, London. He won an Open Scholarship to read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Brasenose College, Oxford.
In 1978, when he was 22, he was appointed editor of Bombay magazine,making him the youngest editor in the history of Indian journalism. In 1986, when he was 30, he became editor of Sunday, the newsmagazine published by the ABP group. Under Sanghvi's editorship Sunday became India's largest-selling English-language newsmagazine. In 1999, he was appointed Editor of the Hindustan Times, the largest-selling Englishlanguage newspaper in Delhi and North India.
Sanghvi has also run a parallel TV career which began while he was still editor of Sunday. Several of his shows have been aired on Doordarshan, Star TV Network, NDTV, Discovery Travel, Discovery Living & CNBC to name a few. Vir is a familiar face on current affair debates across TV channels.
As an author, Sanghvi's books include Men ofSteel , one of the biggest paperback bestsellers in the history of Indian publishing which has been translated into 8 Indian languages. His other books are Rude Food and MadharvaroScindia, a biography (Penguin) and India Then and Now.
Vir Sanghvi has won many awards during his career for both TV and print including the Rajiv Gandhi Award, the LokmanyaTilak Award, the Cointreau Award for Best Food Literature Book in the world (for Rude Food) and innumerable TV prizes. In 1993, he was declared A Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum at Davos. Vir is an ardent connoisseur of food and one of the country's best known writers on the subject.

Farhat Jamal, IHM Pusa 1978

Farhat Jamal is Senior Vice President Operations, West, with The Indian Hotels Company Ltd. He returned to the Taj family from Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts where he was based in New Delhi overseeing their India operations. Previously, he has worked with Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces in India and overseas in various capacities for close to three decades, and has all-round experience of building and managing large hospitality businesses.
Farhat has received many accolades and recognitions for his outstanding contribution to the hospitality industry and is an outstanding Industry Leader.

Kapil Chopra, IHM Pusa 1994

Kapil Chopra is the President, The Oberoi Group, and is responsible for all The Oberoi and Trident Hotels in India as well as The Oberoi, Dubai. An alumnus of The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development (OCLD) and with over 19 years of experience, he has worked with premium hotel chains in the country. During his career he has won many awards & recognitions.
He is an avid collector of Indian Contemporary Art and writes for various national and international publications. He is the founder an online art portal called Bestcollegeart.com, and The Wall, India's leading online art magazine.

Puneet Chhatwal, IHM Pusa 1984

Puneet Chhatwal is the CEO of Frankfurt based Steigenberger Hotel Group, one of Europe's leading hotel companies, with 110 Hotels in operation or under development in 11 countries amongst Europe, Middle East and Africa.
He has a Master's Degree in International Hospitality Management from ESSEC, France, and has also completed the AMP (Advanced Management Program) as well as the AMP Capstone at INSEAD (Paris & Singapore respectively).
During his stellar career, Puneet has won several awards & recognitions globally.

Rahul Pandit, IHM Pusa 1993

Rahul Pandit is MD & CEO of Ginger Hotels, Tata group's pioneering economy lodging business, with 34 operating Hotels and a dozen projects under development. Earlier, he co-founded Lemon Tree Hotels and led its growth from a startup to 27 Hotels, in 12 years. He has worked and trained across India, USA & Singapore, with reputed Hotel companies.
He has studied Sales, Innovation & HR from IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, ISB Hyderabad & Cornell- Nanyang, Singapore. He is a Council Member of Gerson Lehrman Group and also serves on the National Tourism Committee of CII.

Raj Rana, IHM Pusa 1984

Raj Rana is currently the CEO of Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, South Asia. Raj started his hotel career in India and went overseas in 1991. After working in various senior executive positions in Europe and U.S.A, Raj returned full circle to India in April 2013. Previously Raj was head of Radisson Franchised Operations, for Americas based at the company's world headquarters in Minneapolis.
His broad spectrum experience includes brand growth and expansion, opening hotels, managing brand conversions and ensuring profitable business operations. Raj has an MBA from New York.

Mandeep S Lamba, IHM Pusa 1982 Moderator

Mandeep S. Lamba is MD, Hotels & Hospitality Group, JLL. In his earlier roles, he was President of ITC Fortune Park Hotels and MD, Dawnay Day Hotels, a joint venture company that he set up with the UK based Dawnay Day Group.
An established Industry leader, Mandeep is respected for his insight into the Indian Hospitality Industry, having won several awards & recognitions for his accomplishments. He is a regular invitee to several Industry forums and a speaker in Seminars & Conferences in India & abroad.

Himmat Anand, IHM Pusa 1978

A day dreamer, Himmat left the corporate world in 2007 when he was CEO-India & South Asia - Kuoni Destination Management, to pursue his decades old dream to create a brand which delivered experiences. The Tree of Life Resorts & Hotels today operate in Jaipur, Udaipur, Dudhwa National Park, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, with Varanasi and Agra under construction.
He started his career with the Taj Group of Hotels and then moved to tourism in 1981, with most of his career with SITA / Kuoni Travel, which included postings in Frankfurt, London and Paris for a decade.

Rajesh Bahrdwaj, IHM Pusa 1982

Rajesh migrated to the US in 1990 with a vision. Beginning with a small restaurant in Queens, NY, he later co-founded Café Spice in 1997, which grew into an Indian Bistros chain, and changed the landscape of Indian Cuisine in the US. Rajesh has given the very best in Indian Hospitality and Cuisine to the world. With Junoon New York, and Junoon Dubai.
Today Junoon is considered amongst the finest restaurant in the US. Receiving a Michelin star for 5 consecutive years, and recipient of 5 consecutive Awards of Excellence from Wine spectator, Junoon is rated amongst the top 10 in New York, by New York Times. It is the only Indian restaurant in The Forbes list of 3 star eateries in NY.

Sanjeev Kapoor, IHM Pusa 1984

Sanjeev Kapoor, Celebrity Chef, of the longest running Cookery Show in history - Khana Khazana, now running for nearly two decades. On International TV he has prominently featured with Rachel Ray, Richard Quest and Rene Redzepi. He is the first Chef across the World to start his own 24x7 Food TV Channel.
He has over 150 titles (English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati) to his name. Sudhir Gupta, IHM Pusa 1986

Sudhir Gupta is Founder & CEO of TLC Group, which he set up after spending ten years at The Oberoi Group as Director of Marketing & Development. TLC is widely acknowledged as a leading company for providing marketing services including loyalty programs for hotel companies and has a presence in over 20 locations in India and East Africa with a team of over 800 people. Its clients include some of the finest Indian and International hospitality brands.
Sudhir is an alumnus of The Oberoi Centre for Learning & Development and has an MBA and a CFA.

Sunil Bhu, IHM Pusa 1982

Founder, Flanders Dairy Products. Acting on his fascination with European cheese, he took up apprenticeship under the guidance of a Master cheesemaker in Diksmuide, Flanders, Belgium.
After being initiated into the fine art of producing farm cheese in Belgium, he took up residence in North Italy to train under renowned cheesemakers. Here he mastered the production of a variety of South European cheeses.
He now successfully practices these skills on a farm on the outskirts of Delhi, producing some fine European cheeses right here in India.

Nina Chatrath, IHM Pusa 1983 Moderator

Nina Chatrath works in the space of Identifying and Developing Leaders, through Enhance Consulting, of which she is a founder. Nina focuses on the impact of leadership on business performance and organization building, having worked as a Partner in global search firms, Heidrick & Struggles and Korn/Ferry International.
When not navigating through organizational blueprints and devising solutions for them, Nina delivers thought provoking ideas on leadership across associations-CII, AIMA, NHRD, and serves in the HR committee of CII. Nina guides organizations on their leadership and talent implications through her writings in leading business publications.
